Abdullah Mir
Activist and Community Organizer

About Me
I am an activist, advocate, community organizer and leader based in Pickering, Ontario. I am the co-chair of city planning and environmental advocacy group Stop Sprawl Durham, a board member of the Pickering Public Library and land use advocacy group Land Over Landings, vice president of Rougemount Community and Recreation Association and an advisor to iTrust Community Centre.

I have been at the forefront of major advocacy efforts in Pickering, championing environmental protection, responsible land use, and community well-being. I played a leading role in the successful campaign to reinstate the removed Greenbelt lands in Pickering, including the Duffins Rouge Agricultural Preserve (DRAP), protecting vital farmland and natural spaces. I was instrumental in halting plans for a Pickering airport, ensuring the preservation of greenspace, and strongly opposed the expansion of Orchard Villa to safeguard seniors' well-being.

Beyond advocating for responsible land use management, I am a dedicated community builder, organizing events through the Rougemount Community and Recreation Association to bring people together. I have advocated for stronger children and teen programming at the Pickering Public Library, supported food security initiatives through the Pickering food bank, and pushed for greater democracy and a return to responsible governance in Pickering. Through persistent advocacy, coalition-building, and public engagement, I continue to work toward a more sustainable, inclusive, and community-focused future for Pickering.
In my view, the most important issues of my lifetime are the growing income and wealth inequality in our society and the world as a whole and the pending disastrous economic, and human effects of global climate change.
I hope to create and inspire positive change in the world with my ideas and actions. I am passionate about protecting the environment, keeping the healthcare system public, investing in education and building healthy vibrant communities.
